FILM

After several years of working as a photographer, I decided to take up filmmaking. Apart from documentary films commissioned by China General Television Network (CGTN), I have worked on personal projects with collaborators.

Documentary: Elephant Country

The film was commissioned by China General Television Network (CGTN), the broadcast version can be watched here: Assignment Asia: Elephants of Kerala

This story explores the complex lives of elephants living under the care of people in Kerala. Can elephants really understand us? Do they really bond with the humans who look after them like the Malayalis believe? How much do we know and understand about the psyche of these beautiful creatures and what do animal rights activists have to say? There are many questions that remain unanswered, but we hope, that this would start a meaningful debate about what may be best for the welfare of the last of the pet elephants in Kerala.

Short fiction: Lost

Memories of my grandmother, who passed away due to Alzheimer’s, inspired this personal project. I wanted to make a short fiction film that tried to put the viewer in the shoes of a person suffering from Alzheimer’s, to illustrate the confusion and loneliness that they might feel. My grandmother would often confuse me for her daughter or see and talk to people who had died years ago. Lost in her own world, to me it seemed as if her memories had blurred and some had entirely disappeared. This experience formed the seed of the idea for the short film ‘Lost’. This film is part of my personal work.
